THEOplayer adds support for MPEG-5 LCEVC

Streaming video services of all kinds are looking to deliver their viewers higher resolution and higher quality video whilst simultaneously maintaining manageable delivery costs. MPEG-5 LCEVC achieves all this at up to 40% lower bitrates, triggering substantial delivery cost savings while also reducing encoding compute and energy consumption by up to 3x. LCEVC operates as an enhancement to all video codecs (H.264, H.265, VP9, AV1 etc.) and can be easily deployed to the vast majority of devices. While media companies are increasingly expanding into low latency, highly interactive use cases (such as live sports betting, fan engagement during live concerts, online shopping experiences, and live television polls) there is often a trade-off between low latency encoding and a high-quality of experience. This is where MPEG-5 LCEVC (ISO/IEC 23094-2) can be deployed to improve compression efficiency and enhance video quality to enable lower latency.
